Kafés was now determined more than ever to have his crops grow. Every morning, all day, and into the night he would spend his time in the fields. He dug up the soil and planted new seeds. He cared for them meticulously, making sure conditions were perfect. Yet, barley any crops grew. He did everything right! If he had a book or knew how to read, he would have said that he had done everything by the book. Why weren't his crops growing? None of it made sense. His neighbor, Geítonas, was able to grow crops without a problem and without lifting a finger, but he could not. They shared the same land so why was his neighbor's harvest bountiful and his pitiful?
He sees Geítonas in the field one day and decides to talk to him. Maybe he had some advice for him. Maybe he was the reason his crops weren't growing and he was secretly sabotaging the his crops.
Geítonas waves at him as he approaches, "Ah! Hello, my friend. What brings you to my side of the dirt?" Geítonas was nice enough but he could get on Kafés' nerves. Not because he was snobbish or mean, but because he was always so happy. Yeah, sure, his family wasn't starving. Did he have to rub it in to everyone's faces?
Kafés nods and waves back half-heartedly, "I wanted to ask you a question." Now that he was here, he was kind of embarrassed that he was going to ask Geítonas for help. He knew his neighbor would not turn him away but he still wanted to do things on his own. He takes a deep breath and asks, "What...Why is it that my crops never grow and yours always do? We share the same damn dirt. I...borrow some of your methods. Why is it not working?"
"Perhaps you are doing it wrong? Or perhaps I am very lucky? It is my middle name after all," Geítonas shrugs and gives his charming smile. Even if Kafés punched his teeth out his smile would still be charming. Damn Geítonas.
Kafés rolls his eyes, "It is? 'Lucky' is your middle name?"
Geítonas shakes his head, "No... No actually it's Theofanis...Anyways, I am sorry that you are suffering, my friend."

Kafés nods and begins to walk away, "Well...thanks for...nothing I guess." Before he can get far, his neighbor calls out for him, "Wait! I think there is a way for you to fix things." Kafés turns around and looks at him intrigued, "There is?"
Geítonas nods and walks over to him, "Perhaps you must seek help from someone higher than us." Kafés looks at him in confusion, "You want me to ask Psilós Týpos? I mean, yeah, he's tall but he isn't a farmer." Geítonas' smile falters as if he thought to himself "my gods this guy is dumb." He shakes his head and explains, "No, I mean the gods. You must go to the gods. They will help you." Kafés considers his neighbors advice and nods. Asking those big guys in the sky couldn't hurt. He shakes his neighbor's hand and walks off to find a god that could help.
